SHILLONG/ NONGPOH, Sep 30: Union Minister of State (Independent) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Jayant Chaudhary, on Monday discussed with Governor CH Vijayashankar the initiatives aimed at enhancing skill development and entrepreneurship in Meghalaya.
Chaudhary, who called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan, Shillong, outlined the central government’s ongoing schemes designed to equip the youths with market-relevant skills, create jobs and foster entrepreneurship in the region.
During the meeting, the Governor commended the Ministry’s efforts of focussing on skilling the youths of Meghalaya, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, tourism and traditional crafts.
Vijayashankar also emphasised the critical role skill development plays in driving socio-economic progress and providing better livelihood opportunities.
He then pointed to the potential for growth in agro-based industries and the textile sector in the state.
Review of central schemes in Ri-Bhoi
The Union MoS also chaired a meeting to review centrally sponsored schemes at the DC’s office conference hall in Nongpoh.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, Director at Education Ministry Rahul Pachori, Director of DECT and Mission Director of SBM (G) Meghalaya, JP Lakiang, Project Director of DRDA, R. Brahma, along with officials from various line departments.
During the meeting, officials from DRDA, PHE, PWD, Fisheries, Veterinary, Health, Education, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Skill Development provided updates to the Union MoS on the developmental works and the status of centrally sponsored schemes being implemented in Ri-Bhoi.
