SHILLONG, Oct 2: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, on Wednesday, donated five months of his salary to various Puja Committees in Shillong. Shullai contributed Rs 9,00,001 to 29 Puja Committees across the city.
In this regard, he mentioned that the government does not have provisions to sanction funds for religious purposes, which is why he chose to donate his salary for this cause. He expressed concern over senior citizens having to go door-to-door to collect donations for Durga Puja and noted that organising the festival is costly, with Committees needing funds for pandals, food, idols, and other expenses.
