SHILLONG, Oct 3: The Health department has conducted an audit of the infrastructure installed across various locations in Meghalaya during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh stated that the department recently audited these assets and confirmed that they continue to be utilised efficiently and effectively.
She also mentioned that the government is planning to build a large hospital in Jengjal, while the oxygen plants installed at Civil Hospital and Ganesh Das Hospital are functioning well.
It is worth noting that crores of rupees were spent during the pandemic to construct oxygen plants and prefab infrastructure, given the dire situation in Meghalaya at the time. The department has also requested that some of the infrastructure built at Ganesh Das Hospital during COVID be repurposed for the proposed medical college. “Some of it has already been converted into a drug store,” Lyngdoh said, adding that the facility at Umsawli will soon be transformed into a skill lab for manpower training.
The department on Thursday held discussions with countries interested in hiring manpower from Meghalaya.
The Umsawli facility will be used to train not only health professionals but also personnel from the Agriculture department.
