Staff nurse and auxiliary nurse midwife examination
SHILLONG, Oct 8: A day after some successful candidates of the staff nurse and auxiliary nurse midwife examination had urged the state government to go ahead with the recruitment process, another group of candidates on Tuesday demanded the scrapping of the results of written examination.
The examination was conducted by the Meghalaya Medical Services Recruitment Board.
The candidates demanding the scrapping of the results submitted a letter to the Grievances Cell at the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), expressing their unhappiness over alleged anomalies and irregularities in the entire recruitment process.
One of the candidates, Lurstep Nongrum, told reporters they would also demand a judicial probe into the irregularities and actions against those responsible.
He questioned why the results of the same written examination had to be declared thrice. He said this has created doubts in the minds of the candidates.
Further, Nongrum questioned why the marks of only 22 candidates out of the 26 candidates who secured 72 marks were displayed.
“We would like to know why the four names were missing,” he said.
He expressed surprise that the marks of the candidates who secured less than 70 marks were displayed. He said this was another major lapse committed by the board.
Nongrum said they have also sought a clarification through the letter on the nine questions set in the written examination.
“We have a confusion with these nine questions as we are not sure of the correct answers. Many of the students would fail to secure the cut-off marks as they were confused to answer these nine questions,” he said.
He said they have nothing against the successful candidates but “it would be wrong to say that only the candidates who cleared the examination worked hard. Many students who failed had also given their everything to prepare for the examination.”
On Monday, some successful candidates had appealed to the government not to delay or postpone the recruitment process.
One of them, Marybahun Marbaniang, had stated that it was through hard work they cleared the examination which was fair, transparent, and competitive.
Edilfield Marbaniang, another successful candidate, said there should not be any doubt in the recruitment process.
Shemphang Wankhar, yet another successful candidate, recalled that during a recruitment process in 2021, the marks obtained by only the shortlisted candidates were displayed. “But this time round, the marks of all the candidates who had appeared were displayed,” Wankhar stated.
