Three drown during Durga idol immersion
GONDIA, (MP) Oct 13: Three men drowned while immersing an idol of Goddess Durga in a lake in Maharashtra’s Gondia district, an official said on Sunday.The incident occurred in Lodhitola (Saori) village ion Saturday night, the official said.A group of villagers ventured into the lake to immerse the idol late in the night and entered the deep waters, where three of them drowned. The villagers informed the police, and a district search and rescue team fished out the bodies, the official said. (PTI)
4 cops booked over death of Dalit man
LUCKNOW, Oct 13: Two days after a 24-year-old Dalit man arrested during a raid on a gambling den died in police custody here, an FIR has been registered against four policemen in connection with the case, officials said on Sunday.The family members of the deceased, identified as Aman Gautam, alleged that he was beaten to death by the cops on Friday night, a charge denied by the police who claimed Gautam died due to a heart attack.Based on the complaint lodged by the deceased’s family, an FIR has been registered against Constable Shailendra Singh and three other policemen.In her complaint, Gautam’s wife Roshni alleged that her husband was sitting at the Ambedkar Park on Friday night when a police team reached there and started thrashing and abusing Gautam, who fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital by the cops.She also alleged that Shailendra Singh was the main person behind the assault on her husband along with three other policemen.The police, on their part, claimed that a raid was conducted at the Ambedkar Park on Friday night following reports of gambling activities.(PTI)
Man held for stabbing cousin to death over parking
SRINAGAR, Oct 13: Police arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his cousin to death following an altercation over parking space here on Sunday.Zareef Ahmad Mir allegedly stabbed his cousin, Amir Razak Mir, during an argument over parking vehicles near their shops in the city’s Parimpora area, a police spokesperson said.Police have taken cognisance of the incident and arrested the accused, he added.The victim was declared dead on arrival. Man sets woman ablaze over case against his father
KHANDWA,(MP) Oct 13: A man set a 19-year-old woman on fire and injured her after pressuring her to withdraw her case against his father in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district, an official said on Sunday.The woman sustained 27 per cent burns in the attack that occurred on Saturday and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, Khandwa Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Rai told PTI.The official said the accused, Arjun Balai (22), poured petrol on the woman and set her on fire. He was arrested and presented in court.The woman has alleged that Arjun was pressuring her to withdraw a case against his father, Mangilal Balai, as they were distant relatives and belonged to the same caste, he said. Arjun has been booked under section attempt to murder. (PTI)
