Govt seeks Rs 600 cr fund for Social Welfare dept

SHILLONG, Oct 14: The state government has requested the Centre to sanction Rs 600 crore to strengthen the functioning of the Social Welfare department.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh revealed this on Monday while reviewing the functioning of the Directorate of Social Welfare.
Stating that the department has to improve the service condition of its employees, he said many staff are working on a contractual basis and the government wants to enhance the facilities provided to them.
The minister also reviewed the functioning of the women and child helplines.
He also pointed out the child helpline cell has been highly effective with about 90% of the cases resolved in a time-bound manner.
