Curbs on select activities in WGH ahead of by-election

TURA, Oct 16: With the Election Commission of India (ECI) announcing the date for by-election to Gambegre constituency on Tuesday, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagadish Chelani has issued restrictions on certain activities for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the upcoming election.
The order issued by Chelani on Wednesday prohibited wall writing, pasting of posters, erecting cutouts, banners, hoardings, flags etc., on any government premises, displaying of flags and banners on private premises except with permission from the owner, displaying of flags, stickers on private or commercial vehicles unless they are used for election campaign with permission from the District Election Officer or Returning Officer and the carrying of any type of arms and explosives in the entire district.
Meanwhile, in a separate order, also from the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills all arms license holders from the district have also been directed to deposit their licensed weapons to the nearest police station, outpost or beat houses with immediate effect.
However, any individual who desires to appeal against the said order may submit their written justification for retaining the licensed arms, to the Deputy Commissioners office during office hours.
