Ri Bhoi DSO successfully hosts Fit India marathon

Nongpoh, Oct 19: The District Sports Officer (DSO) of Ri Bhoi District, in collaboration with the Deputy Commissioner’s office, successfully organized a 5-kilometer marathon this morning as part of the Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run 5.0. The event aimed to encourage public participation in running to promote physical health and well-being.
The marathon kicked off near the Ri Shat Sngi Orchid Resort and concluded at the Meghalaya State Fisheries Research & Training Institute, Mawpun Kshaid. It was flagged off by Umroi constituency MLA Damanbait Lamare, in the presence of Ri Bhoi District Sports Officer Bobby L. Nongbet, along with other officials.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from dozens of young men and women, as well as elderly women, representing various parts of Ri Bhoi District.
At the end of the race, the DSO’s office distributed cash prizes, trophies, and certificates to the winners in different categories, encouraging and motivating the participants.
Among the male participants, Skhemlang Suba secured first place, followed by Monas Bongrung in second, and Jemon Makri in third.In the women’s category, Filinza Hansapi took first place, Julina Bongrung came second, and Rinalis Ingty finished third. A special prize for elderly women was awarded to Edwina Nongrum.
The marathon concluded on a high note with participants expressing their joy and satisfaction at being part of the event, which not only promoted fitness but also fostered a sense of community spirit.
