SHILLONG, Oct 20: Congress leader and Tura Lok Sabha member, Saleng A Sangma on Sunday said the factors responsible for politicians switching parties determine their intention, although defection is common.
“Many leaders have joined the NPP and many will be joining Congress. They are free to do so and it is for the people to decide what their motive is,” he said.
He also rubbished reports of members of Congress and other parties keen on joining the VPP in the Garo Hills.
On the VPP’s expansion bid, Sangma said: “The VPP is expanding not only to the Garo Hills but to all parts of Meghalaya which is good as they are trying to highlight what the government is doing is not for the people.”
The VPP created a buzz during the 2023 state polls, winning four seats in its first election. This year, it swept the Shillong Lok Sabha seat to end Congress’s 26-year run.
