RESUBELPARA, Oct 23: In a major move, the Cabinet on Wednesday relaxed the upper-age limit for serving SSA teacher for recruitment in Govt LP, UP or secondary and higher secondary schools to 45 years. Serving SSA teachers will now be able to participate in the recruitment examinations advertised by the state government.
The Education department had moved for the relaxation of the upper age limit for serving SSA teachers.
“The government has approved the upper age limit to 45 years, under which the serving SSA teachers will be able to participate in the recruitment examinations advertised by the government of Meghalaya,” Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said after a cabinet meeting in Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.
Further, the Cabinet passed the Meghalaya Private Medical Institution (regulation of admission, fixation of fees and reservation) Ordinance, 2024 and the Meghalaya Medical College Regulation and Admission into MBBS Course, 2024.
The ordinance will come into effect post signing by the Governor.
“The regulatory committee will be notified and accordingly fixation of fees, implementation of reservation policy and allotment of seats as per the norms of the government and guided by ruling of various Courts will be effective. USTM (PA Sangma Medical College) will operate soon after the signing of the ordinance by the Governor, which will be duly notified,” cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said during the press brief.
In addition, the Cabinet approved rules to regulate rental housing, allotment of government quarters, rental housing scheme of employees of the state government. It will also enable the Housing department to take charge of their assets, evaluate, wherever necessary and take necessary decisions with regards to creation of additional rooms and other infrastructure.
In another decision taken, the Cabinet has approved the availing of loans from Asian Development Bank for implementation of support for Human Capital Development in Meghalaya – Phase – II.
As per what was stated, 90 per cent of the loan amount will be sanctioned and paid by the central government while 10 per cent of the loan amount will be borne by the state, as has historically been the case.
The meeting, held in Resubelpara for the first time, is part of the state government’s promise to bring governance closer to the people through its “Cabinet on the Go” programme through which it goes to various districts for the outreach of the government and its initiatives.
The meeting started before the official time of 2:30 pm with 11 cabinet ministers being part of the retinue. Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh was delayed by a few minutes as he waded through unforgiving traffic in Assam to get to the venue of the meeting.
