SHILLONG, Oct 23: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of East Khasi Hills has issued an order for the immediate dismantling of all temporary structures encroaching on the right of way along National Highway 40 (NH-40). This action is being taken to address concerns over encroachment on the highway.
In an order, the DC stated that all temporary structures within the encroachment area of NH-40 must be dismantled immediately, while emphasising that any sales of land along the right of way would be at the risk of both the buyer and the seller. Furthermore, village headmen have been instructed not to issue land documents for properties adjacent to the national highway unless a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Public Works Department (PWD) has been obtained.
