Shillong, Oct 25: Union Minister of Textiles, Giriraj Singh on Friday inaugurated the Shillong NIFT campus at Umsawli, New Shillong Township in the presence of Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita and Meghalaya’s Textiles Minister, Paul Lyngdoh.
Singh also attended the 12th Convocation of the institute after the inauguration of the permanent campus.
In all, 123 graduates of the 2024 batch received their degrees at the convocation.
Union Minister of Textiles in his address congratulated the graduates on their new beginning as professionals in the industry.
He asked the graduates to work for society without forgetting their roots and to continuously strive towards upgrading their knowledge.
Achievements of students who excelled in both academic and extracurricular activities were also recognized and awards handed out to students for the NIFT Student of the Year and NIFT Best Academic Performance Award and NIFT Award for Meritorious Student categories.
Director General of NIFT, Tanu Kashyap, NIFT director, Shankar K. Jha and Dean (Academics), Sudha Dhingra were also present on the occasion.
This landmark event not only represents the growth and development of fashion education in the region but also signifies NIFT’s commitment to nurturing creativity and innovation in the field of fashion and textiles.
