KSU wants reforms in DSCs for fair recruitment process

SHILLONG, Oct 25: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Employment Monitoring Cell (EMC) has exhorted Chief Secretary DP Wahlang to reform the District Selection Committees (DSCs) in order to enhance transparency and restore public confidence in government hiring processes.
Led by KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar, the delegation called on the chief secretary and submitted a 15-point recommendation aimed at ensuring fair recruitment practices by both the DSCs and the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC).
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Marngar stressed the need to eliminate backdoor appointments, advocating for the selection of deserving and qualified candidates rather than individuals with political connections.
The KSU president said that oftentimes family members and close associates of MLAs, MDCs and other politicians are seen securing government jobs, though he admitted there is no direct evidence to corroborate the same.
“But everyone knows that this is happening in all the government departments,” the KSU president said.
In its 15-point recommendation, the KSU suggested regular advertisement of vacancies, political neutrality of DSC vice chairs and non-official members, and annual asset declarations by committee members.
Additional recommendations suggest an annual exam calendar, completion of the recruitment process within six months and confidentiality of exam materials.
The KSU also advocated for a computer-based testing format, disclosure of candidates’ marks and ensuring no changes occur in roll numbers or other candidate details mid-process.
It may be mentioned that the KSU will also submit these recommendations to deputy commissioners across Khasi and Jaintia Hills.
