The Chai Renaissance
Shillong was once the proud home of the good ol’ sha-saw, simple, traditional, and beloved by all.
However, recently, a new chai renaissance is sweeping the town, with trendy chai joints popping up. The tea is now served in a roasted clay cup, thereby giving the humble beverage a glamorous upgrade.
The nostalgia of morning chai and biscuits at the local dukaans feels like an almost ancient relic. Those small shops, once the cornerstone the now elder’s mornings, are being overshadowed by the flashiness of the latest chai joints.
As winter approaches, we can expect this chai culture to get even more adventurous. The menu should have everything from classic masala to chai infused with saffron, lavender, and maybe even the essence of the upcoming winters!

Watch your wallets, people!
As the festive season approaches, shoppers are hitting the streets with their thick wallets, ready to splurge on gifts for family and friends. But if you’re an old-school cash carrier, there’s one thing you need to keep in mind, your excited wallet is just as exciting to pickpockets!
These sneaky pros are so skilled, you might not even realise your wallet has vanished until you’re halfway to the checkout line. And with the festive rush in full swing, it’s easy to get swept up in the excitement, only to find your wallet vanishing into thin air!
One Shillong Jottings member witnessed this firsthand, thankfully, they were carrying an empty (cashless) wallet, so the only thing taken was their pride.
So, make sure the festive spirit isn’t dampened by a missing wallet. Keep your wallets close and those pickpockets even closer!
