4 Indians killed in single-vehicle crash in Canada
Ottawa, Oct 28: Four Indian nationals were killed and one injured when the car they were travelling in crashed and burst into flames in Canada’s Ontario province, on Thursday last authorities said. The five people, between the ages of 25-32, were travelling in a Tesla when it “lost control and struck the guard rail and then a concrete pillar” before bursting into flames, the press release said. Nepal PM plans to visit China
Kathmandu, Oct 28: Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli plans to pay an official visit to China between mid-November and mid-December. Citing a high-level source at the Prime Minister’s Office, My Republica newspaper reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing for the proposed visit of Oli to China as the government completes its first 100 days in office. When PTI tried to contact the Foreign Ministry for comments, the spokesperson was not available. However, a high-level source at the Foreign Ministry said that neither India nor China so far handed over an invitation to the Prime Minister for the official visit. (PTI)
UK MPs call for release of Imran Khan
Islamabad, Oct 28: Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been behind bars for over a year for multiple cases of corruption and sedition, is getting open support from parliamentarians from countries like the United Kingdom. Over 20 cross-party UK parliamentarians have signed an appeal through a letter by Liverpool Riverside MP Kim Johnson, urging the Foreign Secretary David Lammy to engage with the Shehbaz Sharif-led government of Pakistan for the immediate release of former premier and leader of political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan. Iraq files complaint over Israel’s use of its airspace
Baghdad, Oct 28: Iraq has submitted a letter of protest to the UN secretary-general and the Security Council, condemning Israel’s blatant violation of Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty to launch an attack on Iran, Iraqi government spokesman Basim al-Awadi said on Monday. Iraq will not allow its airspace or land to be used for attacks on other nations, particularly neighbouring countries with whom Iraq shares mutual respect and interests, al-Awadi said in a statement. The Iraqi government reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the country’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. (IANS)
Georgian Prez rejects election results
Tbilisi, Oct 28: Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili rejected the results of parliamentary elections as “grossly rigged.” At a press briefing on Sunday, she said the president and the opposition would not reconcile with fraudulent elections. “I do not accept this election. It cannot be accepted,” Zourabichvili said, calling on citizens to stage a protest outside the Georgian parliament. (IANS)
