ULFA-I linkmen apprehended in Upper Assam

Guwahati, Oct 30: Several over-ground workers (OGWs)/linkmen associated with militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) have been apprehended amid intensified operations by the Assam Police, military intelligence and security forces in Upper Assam over past few days.

“A series of joint operations involving Assam Police, military intelligence and security forces was launched in the General Area of Charaideo, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts of Upper Assam from October 26 to October 30 2024, resulted in the apprehension of five OGWs)/ linkmen,” a statement said.

The previous coordinated intelligence-based operation was conducted by Assam Police (NER/ER) and Kolkata-based military intelligence on October 25, 2024.

Till now, total 10 OGWs (of ULFA-I) have been apprehended during the counter-insurgency operations launched by security forces over the past six days.

The joint operation remains ongoing, as security forces aim to dismantle the remaining entire network connected to ULFA (I) in the region.

Authorities have emphasised the significance of the operation in countering insurgency threats of IED attacks during Republic Day 2025 and ensure stability in Assam.
