Border security meeting focuses on tackling sugar, cattle smuggling
SHILLONG, Oct 30: The issue of sugar and cattle smuggling and measures to address the same were discussed during the 66th Directional Level Meeting of the lead intelligence agency in Shillong. According to a statement here, the meeting, held under the chairmanship of BSF Meghalaya DIG (PSO), ID Singh, aimed to improve inter-agency coordination and address key security concerns along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The meeting centered on discussions on border challenges, particularly the ongoing issues of sugar and cattle smuggling. “Representatives from multiple intelligence and security agencies shared insights and developed strategies to counteract these illicit activities, which have significant security and economic implications. Discussions also included operational strategies reinforced by an intelligence network to strengthen border security measures,” the statement said. In his address, Singh underscored the importance of collaboration among agencies to safeguard border security and combat crimes. “The agencies present reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing intelligence sharing and operational coordination to curb illegal activities along the international border,” the statement said.
Curtain comes down on golden jubilee celebration of JH school
JOWAI, Oct 30: The golden jubilee celebration of Mukhla Raij Upper Primary School culminated on Wednesday with a grand ceremony attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, among other prominent dignitaries. The celebration featured vibrant performances by students, including traditional dances and songs that reflected the community’s rich cultural heritage. Further, the school also felicitated 28 alumni for their professional achievements. A commemorative souvenir was released on the occasion, and a memorandum was presented to the deputy chief minister, calling for upgrades to the school’s infrastructure, teaching methods, teacher salaries and enrolment. In his address, Dhar pledged support for school improvements, specifically for playground renovations. The deputy chief minister then praised the school’s founders, teachers and alumni for their contributions, highlighting the achievements of former students who have excelled in their careers. On the occasion, Dhar also laid the foundation stone for future developments and participated in the ceremonial cutting of a cake. Others who were part of the programme include local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, JHADC CEM Thombor Shiwat, along with other MDCs, government officials, village leaders as well as students and villagers. Established in April 1974 as Mukhla Middle School, the institution aimed to bring education to children in the Mukhla Dorbar Pyllun region, serving five villages and surrounding communities. From an initial enrolment of just 15 students, the school now provides education to nearly 700 students.
