SHILLONG, Oct 31: The Trinamool Congress has criticised the state government’s recent decision to hike the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike for its employees by three per cent.
Meghalaya TMC youth president Fernandez S. Dkhar pointed out that while the NPP-led MDA government offered a three per cent DA increase, national inflation hovers around 5.5 per cent, with indications that it could be even higher within the state.
“The economy is as lively as a rock, with money now seemingly having its own nameplate,” he remarked, adding that youths have faced underemployment for the past six years.
Dkhar also alleged that farmers are struggling, forced to sell their produce at prices up to 70 per cent below market value due to monopolistic practices.
“Adding to their woes, the MDA government chose to increase household electricity tariffs while lowering the same for industries,” he added.
