Man killed by speeding car while bursting firecrackers
PUNE, Nov 3: A 35-year-old man was killed when a speeding car hit him while he was bursting firecrackers in the Pimpri Chinchwad area in Pune, police said on Sunday.A CCTV footage of the accident, which took place in the Ravet locality on November 1, has surfaced on social media.A senior police officer said, “The victim, Soham Patel, was bursting firecrackers on the road on the eve of Diwali when a speeding car ran him over.” The victim sustained severe injuries and died, he said, adding that a case has been registered against the unidentified driver.“We have recovered the CCTV footage of the incident, and the matter is being probed,” the official said.Residents of the locality have demanded strict action. Man held with 400 kg of beef in Thane
THANE, Nov 3: A 42-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly transporting 400 kg of beef in a car in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Sunday.The police intercepted the car in Dombivli East in the early hours of Friday and found the banned meat and animal parts in the vehicle, an official said.The accused, Sameer Mehmood Sheikh was arrested with the meat valued at Rs 80,000, he said.A search is on for four more persons involved in the crime. The accused are history sheeters with cases in different police stations, the official said.A case has been registered under relevant provisions. (PTI)

Village head’s representative ‘forced to lick own spit’
RAEBARELI, Nov 3: A village head’s representative in Nasirabad area here was allegedly forced to lick his own spit by the local police for “creating chaos” during a ‘nautanki’ programme organised without permission from the authorities on Sunday.Police said the allegations are being investigated by the additional superintendent of police and action will be taken based on his report.Sushil Sharma, the representative of the head of Kapurpur village in Nasirabad, organised a ‘Nautanki’ programme without permission on October 30, Singh said in a statement.During the programme, he and his associates misbehaved with the people and created chaos under the influence of alcohol. The accused also misbehaved with a police team from the local police station after which five people, including Sharma, were taken into custody, it said.Sharma claimed that he and four others were detained and physically assaulted at the local police station while he was made to lick his own spit.He also accused the SHO of demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from him.
