Shillong, Nov 4: Mawlai SC and Ladthadlaboh SC became the latest teams to secure their places in the quarterfinal round of the Meghalaya State League 2024 by coming through their respective group matches on Monday.
Mawlai won by double digits for a third time in a 10-0 victory over Patharkhmah in Group F in Shillong. Ladthadlaboh, meanwhile, won 3-0 against Seven United in Group C in Tyrsad.
Fielding mostly junior players, Mawlai still romped to victory, with Samlang Rympei (45’, 45’+1, 50’, 84’) the latest to net a hat-trick. The other scorers were Balviky Marngar (22’, 26’), Arkibor Makhroh (23’), Romarius Laban (25’), Mewanshan S Nongkseh (51’) and Mark Gareth D Shabong (81’). Mawlai have a full 9 points from three outings with this win.
The highly-anticipated clash between Ladthadlaboh and Seven United was surprisingly one-sided, with Sanki Langstang (38’), Banteilang Shylla (40’) and Lammida-o Dkhar (90’+2) scoring for the West Jaintia Hills-based team. Ladthadlaboh also have 9 points from three games.
Elsewhere, Khliehmawlieh, last year’s runners-up, put the brakes on Sutnga in Group B with a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal by Wallambok Shangpliang (87’) in Mawkyrwat. Having won their first two matches, Sutnga only needed a draw to secure top spot in the group.
Now, Sutnga and Khliehmawlieh both have 6 points and they could be joined by Mawten when the latter take on Riangdo Youth on Wednesday.
In Tura, Lumsohkhlur claimed provisional first place with a 2-0 win against Attong Matgrik in Group A with a 13th minute own goal and another by Jestibor Mawlong (21’).
Lumsohkhlur now have 6 points but the last fixture between Chipakkore (4 points) and Pinggera Do·gisik (3) on Wednesday will decide the fate of the group.
There was another big result in Group D in Khliehriat where Rangdajied United stormed to an 8-0 win against Iatyllilang Lumsehkot Raliang. Pasborlang Khonglikong (21’, 89’), RT Hanson Pdang (37’), Balamlynti Khongjee (45’), Owanijuh Pajuh (58’), Freddy Banteilang Jyrwa (64’), Manbhakupar Iawphniaw (74’) and Aenam G Jyrwa (78’) were the scorers. The defending champions now have 7 points but will have to wait until the last match between Rymbai Skhenshynriah (4) and Mulait United (1) to see who tops the group.
And finally, 7 Wasa United won the dead rubber against Seinbhalang Shkentalang 2-0 in Group E in Wahiajer. Neither team had a chance to progress but the former MSL champions were at least able to come away from this season with a win. Jeff K Rymbai (20’) and Bannangsan Dkhar (65’) were the scorers.
There will be just one match on Tuesday in Group C between Nangkiew Shaphrang Lumdiengngan and Mawlum Tyrsad.
Today’s results:
Group A (Tura): Lumsohkhlur 2 – 0 Atong Matgrik
Group B (Mawkyrwat): Khliehmawlieh 1 – 0 Sutnga
Group C (Tyrsad): Ladthadlaboh 3 – 0 Seven United
Group D (Khliehriat): Rangdajied United 8 – 0 Iatyllilang Lumsehkot Raliang
Group E (Wahiajer): 7 Wasa United 2 – 0 Seinbhalang Shkentalang
