IIM Shillong celebrates 18th Foundation Day

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG, Nov 7: Governor CH Vijayashankar has extended his support to educational institutions in the region, stating, “Anytime any educational institution requires help, such as the IIM, they should knock on the doors of Raj Bhavan, even if it’s midnight and I will ensure the Union government hears the message.” He was addressing the 18th Foundation Day of IIM Shillong as the chief guest on Thursday. He encouraged IIM Shillong’s students to embrace Meghalaya’s rich agricultural heritage and work towards sustainable development in the region.
Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong celebrated its milestone by unveiling initiatives aimed at community empowerment, skill development, and holistic education for the Northeast.
Distinguished guests included National Stock Exchange (NSE) MD and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan, IIM Shillong’s Board of Governors, Chairman Shishir Kumar Bajoria, and Chief Secretary DP Wahlang.
Among the key projects introduced were the ‘Nurturing Minds School Adoption’ Initiative, which partners with two schools in East Khasi Hills — Quidotto Memorial RCLP School and Mawkasiang Umroh Presbyterian Secondary School — to enhance learning environments and community engagement. Another significant initiative, the ‘Skill To Enterprise Model (STEM)’, developed with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), will offer training, mentorship, and financial support to 30 Northeast-based enterprises to foster entrepreneurship. Additionally, the Northeast Enterprise Empowerment Venture (NEEV) programme will focus on addressing regional challenges, including climate change, migration, and livelihood sustainability.
The event also featured panel discussions on the future of management education, where industry experts highlighted the need for agility and adaptability in leadership to navigate today’s dynamic work landscape.
