Shillong Assamese students’ body hosts freshers’, felicitation meet

SHILLONG, Nov 7: The Shillong Socio-Cultural Assamese Students’ Association (SSASA) held its annual “Freshers Meet and Felicitation Program 2024” at the Asom Kristi Kendra in Dhankheti, Shillong, bringing together new and returning students from the Assamese and broader Northeastern communities in Meghalaya. Named “Nabarun-The First Ray of Sun,” the event celebrated both newcomers and notable achievements within the community.
The gathering welcomed several distinguished guests, including chief guest Chakrapani Parashar, whose keynote address inspired students to pursue their ambitions while contributing to their communities. Donal V Thabah, general secretary of the Khasi Students’ Union, attended as the guest of honour, expressing warm support and encouraging greater solidarity among Northeastern students. Also present were Utpal Sharma, president of the All Assam Students’ Union, who emphasised unity and collaboration, and Dundee Khongsit, president of FKJGP, as a special invitee.
The event also saw in attendance representatives from various student unions across the Northeast who joined as special guests, underscoring a shared commitment to camaraderie and mutual respect.
