SHILLONG, Nov 8: The state government has initiated the recruitment of ‘Tourism Buddies’ to be stationed at popular tourist spots across the state.
The Directorate of Tourism has invited online applications for this role, aiming to enhance visitor experience at major destinations.
Applicants must be from villages near the tourist sites, ensuring they have a strong understanding of local culture and context, which will enable them to effectively engage with visitors.
The minimum educational qualification for the post is set at Class 12, ensuring that Tourism Buddies possess the literacy skills necessary for effective communication.
It may be mentioned that the candidates, once selected, will initially be deployed for a one-year term, primarily at high-traffic locations such as Laitlum, Ward’s Lake, Mawsmai Cave, Arwah Cave, Nohkalikai Falls, Dainthlen Falls, Mawlynnong, Mawkdok, Golflink, Shnongpdeng, and Krangsuri.
In these roles, ‘Tourism Buddies’ will act as guides, helpers and interpreters for tourists.
