M’laya’s braveheart Aibok Madur makes supreme sacrifice

SHILLONG, Nov 10: Aibok Madur, the only son to his parents, and a resident of Mawbri village in Ri-Bhoi district, made the supreme sacrifice for the nation while serving at the Siachen Glacier on November 7. The coffin carrying his mortal remains was brought back to his village on Saturday. The arrival was met with a quiet and somber atmosphere.
Aibok was part of the GOC, Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army. His mortal remains will be laid to rest in Lynghkoi on Monday.
Senior army officials have condoled his death. In a tweet the Indian Army said: “General Upendra Dwivedi, and All Ranks of Indian Army, salute the Supreme sacrifice of braveheart Sepoy Aibok Madur, who laid down his life in the line of duty in Siachen.”
The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of Sepoy Aibok Madur.
“While paying homage to Sepoy Aibok Madur from the 10th Battalion of the Assam Regiment, the state government will provide an ex-gratia of Rs 20 lakh to the next of kin of the braveheart. The braveheart made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Siachen on November 7, 2024,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma posted on his social media handle on Sunday.
He said, “We salute the unparalleled bravery of Sepoy Aibok Madur from Assam Regiment, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on November 7, 2024, in Siachen. Hailing from Mawbri village in Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya, Sepoy Madur embodied the true spirit of patriotism.”
The chief minister said, “His selfless act of valour will never be forgotten. We honour his sacrifice and remember his unwavering dedication to our nation.”
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sepoy Madur’s family, and we stand in solidarity with them during this immense hour of grief. The state government extends its full support and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family,” he added.
He further added, “May Sepoy Aibok Madur’s courage and sacrifice inspire future generations, and may his legacy live on forever in our hearts.”
The Mahila Pradesh Congress Committee expressed its deepest condolences and remorse over the untimely demise of Late Aibok Madur.
“The Congress party extends its heartfelt condolences, prayers to his family and dear and loved ones. Aibok Madur was a dedicated, brave and disciplined soldier in his unit his untimely demise will not go unforgettable and his name shall ever be remembered in the echelons of history. The death of Aibok Madur will surely give rise to more patriots like him in the years to come, the Congress stands with the bereaved family in this time of grief,” it said in a statement.
