Delhi’s air quality remains ‘very poor’
NEW DELHI, Nov 10: The air quality in the national capital remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday evening. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) at 4 pm stood at 335 (‘very poor’). The city recorded an AQI of 334 at 9 am. At least eight weather stations, including Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Alipur, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, Wazirpur, Rohini, and RK Puram, reported ‘very poor’ air quality in the evening. On Saturday, the city’s AQI stood at 351 (‘very poor’). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also forecast mist in the evening for the national capital. The maximum temperature on Sunday settled at 32.6 degrees celsius, two notches above normal, with a humidity level of 74 per cent at 5.30 pm. Moderate fog is expected to cover Delhi on Monday, the IMD said. According to AQI classifications, a range of 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’. (PTI)

WB: Newborn trafficking racket busted
KOLKATA, Nov 10: The CID of West Bengal Police, on Sunday, claimed to have busted a newborn trafficking racket, with the arrest of a couple. Sources said that acting on a tip-off about the couple – Manik Halder and Mukul Sarkar, who were engaged in the trafficking of newborn kids, the CID sleuths contacted them as decoy parents wanting to adopt a child. The accused entered into a deal with the decoy parents, and a few days later, informed them that a newborn child would be handed over to them on Sunday against a cash payment of Rs 4,00,000. Accordingly, Shalimar railway station in Howrah district was fixed as the venue for providing the baby with money. As the duo reached the spot, they were apprehended and nabbed by the CID sleuths in civil clothes. A two-day-old newborn was rescued from their possession. Later during interrogation, Halder and Sarkar confessed that they had stolen the child from Gaya in Bihar with the help of their local associates there. (IANS)

8 cars gutted in Telangana
Hyderabad, Nov 10: A container lorry with eight cars being transported on it caught fire in Sangareddy district in Telangana on Sunday and the driver suffered burns, police said. The incident happened on the national highway at Zahirabad town between 1.30 pm and 2 pm. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were brought under control, police said, adding the lorry driver who suffered 20 per cent burns was rushed to a hospital. A short-circuit could have led to the fire mishap, a police official said, based on preliminary investigation. The cars were being transported from Gujarat to Hyderabad, he said. (PTI)
