Bypoll curbs
With just 48 hours left to the hour fixed for the close of the Gambegre bypoll, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Jagadish Chelani has issued an order prohibiting certain activities in all of West Garo Hills district. The order among others prohibits the presence of political functionaries or party workers from outside within the constituency, exit polls till 30 minutes after the end of poll, use of loudspeakers and publication of results of any opinion poll besides others.

Paid holiday
All state government offices and educational institutions located in Gambegre constituency have been directed to remain closed on November 13 in order to enable every voter to exercise their franchise in connection with the by-election. “Every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any of the establishments governed by NI Act, 1881, shops and those which work on shift basis, a daily wage, casual worker who is a voter shall be entitled to the benefit of a paid holiday as provided in Section 135B of RP Act, 1951,” the Secretary, General Administration Department, said in a statement issued here.

Convocation
William Carey University, Meghalaya, will organise its fourth convocation ceremony on Wednesday. Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, will be the chief guest of the event, while retired Prof OP Singh (NEHU) will deliver the convocation address.

Workshop
A two-day workshop titled ‘Viksit Bharat 2047 – Atmanirbhar North-East’ will be organised by the National Institute of Technology Meghalaya (NIT Meghalaya), in collaboration with North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong, at the NIT Meghalaya permanent campus in Saitsohpen, Sohra (Cherrapunji), on Friday and Saturday. The workshop aims to foster an exchange of ideas among policymakers, academic leaders, industry experts, focusing on the Northeast’s role in a self-reliant India.

Conference
The Department of Mechanical Engineering of NIT Meghalaya will organise its 2nd International Conference on Recent Innovations and Developments in Mechanical Engineering (ICRIDME 2024) from November 14 to 16. The conference will feature keynote addresses, technical sessions, and invited talks by distinguished professionals from academia and industry across the globe. It aims to provide a platform for global experts to present their research in mechanical engineering with a particular focus on the Northeast.
