SHILLONG, Nov 14: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) announced on Thursday that it will hold its internal membership and organisational elections in Meghalaya from November 16 to November 20, 2024. The elections will take place at the assembly, district, and state levels, aiming to identify young and dynamic leaders to shape India’s future.
The elections will be conducted based on a core principle: leaders will be chosen solely on their support within the organisation.
This aligns with the vision of the president of All India Congress Committee, who has championed democratic reforms within the Congress Party, particularly through youth wings like the IYC and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).
“These elections are a crucial part of building a new generation of leaders from the grassroots,” said Uday Bhanu Chib, national president of the IYC.
“This is the dawn of a new era in Indian politics. This time, young political leaders in our party will be directly elected by the members themselves. This is a historic step, marking a true form of democracy in action,” he added.
The process will begin with a membership phase, inviting young individuals to join the IYC. This phase will also allow candidates to enroll their supporters as active members. To streamline access, the ‘With IYC’ mobile application, available for both Android and Apple, has been launched.
To ensure the elections are transparent and fair, Zonal and State Returning Officers will oversee the entire process, from nominations to voting. Additionally, the IYC has introduced provisions to encourage the active participation of women and marginalised communities.
“The Youth Congress is deeply committed to inclusivity and equality. This initiative is designed to give every youth, regardless of background, the opportunity to participate in and influence the future of our nation,” said the IYC national president.
