Shillong, Nov 15: The senior most professor at NEHU, Prof N. Saha has assumed charge as the Vice Chancellor in-charge of the university on Friday evening.

Prof Saha has taken charge after Vice Chancellor, Prabha Shankar Shukla has taken earned leave from Friday till November 29.

He was accompanied by members of the NEHUTA, MeTTA-NEHU, NEHUSU, KSU NEHU Unit and NEHUNSA to his chair.

In his address to the teachers, students and non-teaching staff, Prof Saha said that he will try his level best to solve the various problems which are there in collaboration with teachers, students and non-teaching in whatever limited power which he has as the VC in-charge.

“I will not be able to solve the problems which are there in one day. The problems will have to be solved step by steps,” he said.

Stating that he has an association with the university since 1980, he said that he did his study from the university till he became a faculty.

“In my 37 years of service, I have seen all the ups and downs of the university. I have seen the best part and the worst part of it. It is very sad to see the university in this turmoil,” the VC in-charge said.

Meanwhile, Prof also appealed to the agitating students to call off their indefinite hunger strike since he has witnessed how they have suffered since day one especially in his cold weather.

“I have no option but to accept this responsibility since as per the University Act and statutes a senior most professor automatically becomes VC in-charge in the absence of the VC,” he said.

NEHU senior most professor however said that he wishes that the past glory of the university is revived.
