PERTH, Nov 24: Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul etched their names in history by registering the highest opening partnership for India on Australian soil. The duo achieved the feat during the third day of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Perth, rewriting a record that had stood for nearly four decades.
Their stand surpassed the previous best of 191 runs, a milestone set by the iconic pair of Sunil Gavaskar and Krishnamachari Srikkanth during the Sydney Test in 1986.
Remarkably, Jaiswal and Rahul’s partnership also ranks as the highest opening stand for a visiting team outside England. The overall record for the highest first-wicket stand by visitors in Australia still belongs to England’s Jack Hobbs and Wilfred Rhodes, who put together an imposing 323-run partnership in Melbourne back in 1912.
