SHILLONG, Nov 25: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday reminded Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma of his Independence Day promise in 2023 to provide 5 lakh jobs to the youth of Meghalaya, even as the party asked the NPP-led MDA Government to hasten the process of filling up the vacant posts in all departments.
TMC youth leader Fernandez S Dkhar said the CM’s promises have taken a dramatic turn, making one wonder if his initial declaration was more of a “Master of Dreams” scenario.
“On Independence Day 2023, he was ready to bestow 5 lakh jobs upon Meghalaya’s youth, a statement that must have sounded like music to their ears. However, within a year, the job count nosedived to a mere one lakh. Perhaps the CM’s next promise will include a clause for seasonal adjustments, like the weather forecast,” he said.
Stating that the CM has mastered the art of political prestidigitation—making grand promises out of thin air and then, with a flick of the wrist, making them vanish, he said that the youth might need to start keeping track of how many jobs are conjured up and how many disappear into thin air!
According to the TMC leader, reports indicate that thousands of vacancies remain unfilled which raises questions about where the sanctioned budget has been utilised over the past 4 to 5 years.
“It is time for the government to stop pulling disappearing acts with job promises and start delivering concrete results,” he said.
