Police, village leaders discuss strategies to combat crime

JOWAI, Nov 26: The Office of the Superintendent of Police, West Jaintia Hills, organised a programme on Tuesday, with an aim to promote peace and community stability through collaboration with local village defense parties (VDPs).
The event, held at the District Library Auditorium in Mynthong, Jowai, brought together village leaders and police officials to discuss strategies for combating crime and enhancing security.
During the programme, VDP representatives shared their experiences, successes and challenges in maintaining peace and curbing crime within their communities.
They highlighted the collaborative efforts between the VDPs and police in ensuring safety and security.
West Jaintia Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner, B Blah, who was as the chief guest, underscored the importance of legal knowledge for VDP members in effectively carrying out their duties.
“Understanding the law is essential for the greater good of the community,” she said, urging more women to participate actively in such initiatives and recognising their impactful role in community work.
