Rotary Club of Orchid City donates fluorescent coats to traffic cops
SHILLONG, Nov 28: The Rotary Club of Orchid City donated fluorescent half-sleeve coats for traffic police personnel, which were handed over to the East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, on Thursday. Speaking to reporters, the president of the Rotary Club of Orchid City, Anthony War, said that the initiative, funded through contributions from club members, is an annual gesture. “This is a small token of appreciation for the traffic personnel who tirelessly manage the city’s traffic,” War said. During the event, the Superintendent of Police handed over the fluorescent coats to some traffic personnel in the presence of members of the Rotary Club of Orchid City.

Complainant claiming unfair VEC elction in Selsella Block backs out
TURA, Nov 28: A candidate in the recent VEC elections for Namabila village under Selsella Block in West Garo Hills, who was among the signatories in the complaint alleging the improper conduct of the said elections has withdrawn her name. Monjilla Begum withdrew her complaint stating that she was influenced by the other complainants and signed her name not knowing the implications. “I withdraw my complaint and request that my name be removed from the list of complainants,” she said, in her letter to the Selsella BDO. Earlier, Begum had made the complaint along with other candidates- Rebecca Ch Marak and Jorina Bibi and Job card holder, Enamul Hoque.

VPP MLA inspects road projects
SHILLONG, Nov 28: VPP MLA from Mawryngkneng, Heavingstone Kharpran, conducted an inspection of two road projects on Thursday, accompanied by officials from the PWD (Roads) and members of the village dorbar. The first road project connects Umphyrnai to Jyntah, while the second links Jyntah to Happy Valley and extends to the Umkhen Bridge. The inspection is part of preparations for the Laitumkhrah Presbytery’s church gathering, which will be hosted by the Jyntah Presbyterian Church next year. Kharpran stressed the importance of completing the projects promptly and urged PWD (Roads) officials to expedite the work.

Muga Field Day in North Garo Hills
RESUBELPARA, Nov 28: A Muga Field Day was organised by the Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organization (MESSO), P-3 Unit, Rompara, under the Central Silk Board (CSB), at the State Farm in Resubelpara, North Garo Hills. The event, chaired by District Sericulture Officer RC Rabha, aimed to educate farmers about sericulture’s potential for economic and social upliftment. Scientist-C and In-charge, Dr Vikram Kumar, highlighted the importance of sericulture and government schemes that benefit Muga farmers. STA of MESSO, P-4 Unit, Mendipathar, SG Momin, provided insights into quality seed production, proper care, sanitation, and the advantages of Muga rearing over traditional crops. Sericulture Officer Rabha also addressed farmers on Muga diseases, their symptoms, and the importance of disinfection in disease control. The programme saw the participation of 70 farmers, fostering healthy discussions.

Awareness prog on AI at Zikzak
TURA, Nov 28: An awareness programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) was successfully conducted at Borang Resort, Chimite, Nogorpara, under the Zikzak C&RD Block, South West Garo Hills on Wednesday. The event aimed to empower youth with knowledge on the smooth integration of AI into academic pursuits, fostering a balance between social and ethical responsibilities, and exploring AI’s applications across various sectors, including tourism, agriculture, and ecology. Rev. Paramsingh M Sangma, Pastor of Nogorpara Baptist Church, served as the resource person, providing valuable insights into how AI can be a transformative tool for the younger generation. Mawsell D Marak, Assistant Pastor of Rochonpara Baptist Church, moderated the programme. Organised by the Youth Ministry of Rochonpara Baptist Church, the event saw enthusiastic participation from 30 youths, aged 15-30, from the Singimari area. Discussions and interactive sessions highlighted AI’s potential in improving academic practices and contributing to sustainable development. The initiative was a step forward in educating young minds about the benefits and responsibilities associated with AI, encouraging them to use this technology effectively and ethically.
