SHILLONG, Nov 29: A total of 90 police officers from the Northeast, including six deputy superintendents of police (Dy SPs) and 40 Sub-Inspectors (SIs) from Meghalaya, 14 SIs from Assam, 13 Dy SPs and six SIs from Manipur, and eight Dy SPs and three SIs from Nagaland, graduated from the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) in a grand passing-out parade held on Friday.
According to a statement, the event was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who reviewed the parade and formally inducted the officers into active service, whilst NEPA Director Danesh Rana administered the oath to the trainees.
The officers underwent rigorous training starting on December 4, 2023, featuring a curriculum tailored to the needs of beneficiary states.
The training combined theoretical knowledge in Police Science, Legal Studies and Social Science with practical modules, including drills, weapons training, and police operations.
Topics such as National Security, Crisis Management and Crime against Women were added to keep the curriculum relevant.
Trainees also participated in specialised modules such as VIP Security, Advanced Scientific Investigation Techniques and a jungle camp to practise ambush and counter-ambush tactics.
The trainees were also exposed to policing practices and cultural heritage across India during the Bharat Darshan tour.
They were also encouraged to engage in extracurricular activities such as debates, quizzes, cultural programmes and social service initiatives like blood donation drives and Swachhta Abhiyaan campaigns. Club activities, including sports, literary and IT-related events, helped foster teamwork and leadership skills.
Upon completing their training, the graduates received a postgraduate diploma in Police Administration and Investigation from Sardar Patel University of Police, Security, and Criminal Justice, Jodhpur.
Meanwhile, on the occasion, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma applauded the efforts of NEPA’s leadership and staff for providing exceptional training to the officers.
He congratulated the graduates on their achievements and presented trophies and medals to those who excelled during the training period.
Others who were part of the programme include senior officials, parents, relatives and guests.
