Shillong, Nov 29: Several drug users undergoing rehabilitation at Alive Again Foundation in Assam have alleged that they were assaulted at the rehabilitation centre.
“We were badly treated and harassed by the people while undergoing treatment at the Alive Again Foundation where there were no doctors. We were almost treated like dogs,” they claimed on condition of anonymity.
They further alleged that they were not allowed to talk to their family members and were confined to a room like animals.
It may be mentioned that last week the Meghalaya government had ordered a probe into the death of two youths of the state in two rehabilitation centres in Assam.
Meanwhile, a concerned citizen, Naomi Marbaniang on Friday assisted the drug users in filing a complaint with the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
While speaking to reporters, Marbaniang said she decided to help them after the drug users, who were victims of assault at the rehabilitation centre, reached out to her.
Lauding the initiative taken by the HYC to help the youth, she said she was unhappy over how the centre tortured the youths of the state instead of providing them treatment.
