Shillong, Dec 1: Despite not having large resources to draw on, the Meghalaya Gymnastics Association has been continually working for the benefit of young and aspiring gymnasts in the state.
The Annual General Meeting of the MGA was held last weekend where office bearers were unanimously elected for a three-year term to take the association forward.
The MGA will be led by its President Francis Marwein, Working President Jibonsing R Marak, Vice-President Filing A Thangkhiew, General Secretary Lucy M Malngiang and Joint Secretaries Plishanri Lyngdoh and Idaline Malngiang.
The other office bearers are Treasurer Natalie Nongrum, Publicity Secretary Francis A Khongwar and Executive Members Ridahunlin Lyndem, Joseph Pasi, Conniefer Kharchandy, Wanmishisha Kharpan, Nidawanbiang Pasi and Indarishisha Dkhar.
The meeting, presided over by Marwein, discussed at length the association’s achievements and activities.
One of the landmark activities of the MGA was the signing of a memorandum of understanding with St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Laitumkhrah, for imparting training of young gymnasts. The association has hired permanent gymnastics coach Arjun Singh Khwairakpam for regular training of the young gymnasts.
Four gymnasts from Meghalaya joined the State Level Rhythmic Gymnastics Coaching Camp at Nagaon, Assam, from July 2-10, 2024, organised by the Assam Gymnastics Association. Two young gymnasts were admitted as regular students by SAI Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, for regular intensive coaching.
