City school holds vocational training exhibition, showcases students’ skills
SHILLONG, Dec 5: Loreto Convent Shillong on Wednesday held a vocational training exhibition, during which the skill set of the schoolchildren, developed throughout the year, was put on display. The event, organised in collaboration with Don Bosco Technical School, celebrated the students’ achievements following ten vocational training sessions. The exhibition displayed an array of projects across various fields, including woodwork, tailoring, desktop publishing, beauty and wellness, data entry, basic electronics, photography, bakery, automobile and fashion designing. It may be mentioned that the initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s emphasis on vocational education, demonstrating the effectiveness of practical and hands-on training in equipping students with valuable skills.

Buyer-seller meet gets under way
JOWAI, Dec 5: A three-day buyer-seller meet was on Thursday inaugurated by Jowai MLA and Chairman of MUDA, Wailadmiki Shylla, at Jrisalein Playground, Chuwakhu, Jowai. The buyer-seller meet has been organised by the Office of the West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with various line departments. Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Shylla highlighted the event’s objective of promoting farmers’ products and creating a platform for youths seeking job opportunities. He encouraged farmers to engage with each other, share innovative ideas and adopt a friendly approach toward visitors at the stalls. Shylla also urged youths to leverage government schemes to start their own businesses, emphasising that wisely utilising such opportunities could lead to job creation. West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner BS Sohliya, on the other hand, stressed the meet’s goal of enabling farmers from across the district and state to exchange ideas and learn from one another. Expressing optimism that the event would enhance future production and provide valuable insights to farmers, Sohliya advocated for the use of eco-friendly bags and urged farmers, sellers and visitors to avoid plastic and opt for biodegradable alternatives. It may be mentioned that the event features a variety of products, including organic vegetables, fruits, processed foods, spices, local crafts and handcrafts. A dedicated food court offering regional delicacies is attracting visitors, while approximately 120 stalls are showcasing the district’s rich diversity. Additionally, career guidance and overseas employment stalls are also providing information and resources to attendees. During the event, certificates and toolkits were distributed to trainees who successfully completed various trade courses under the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS).
