SHILLONG/TURA, Dec 9: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has announced that black flags and black banners will be displayed across all important locations of the seven Northeastern states on Wednesday. This was announced after it declared that December 11 will be observed as ‘Black Day’ in protest against the central government’s forceful passing of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 in the same year.
In a statement, NESO chairman Samuel Jyrwa reminded the people of the Northeast that on December 11, 2019, despite the relentless opposition of the indigenous peoples against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019, the central government refused to pay any heed as the Rajya Sabha passed the ‘Draconian Law’ called the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019. “We declared that the December 11 will always be remembered as a Black Day for the whole of the Northeast,” the NESO chairman said.
He said that the Black Day observance is to send a message to the Government of India that they are against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.
