SHILLONG, Dec 10: The concert of Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams in Shillong on Tuesday was tainted by black marketing of tickets.
Some individuals sold tickets at exorbitant prices through WhatsApp and other social media platforms. This was disappointing for a lot of fans who arrived in Shillong to witness the performance.
It was learnt platinum tickets were sold from Rs 17,000 to Rs 25,000 each. The price of a ticket under this category was Rs 10,000. Similarly, gold tickets were sold for around Rs 10,000 each whereas the actual price was Rs 6,500.
“As tickets were sold out quickly, we had no other option but to buy them from the black market. The cost was double,” a tourist from Assam said, adding thousands of people from all over the country came to Shillong to witness the event.
Questions were also raised about the government’s preparedness for hosting such a gala event featuring an international star.
Some hoteliers said there was a huge shortage of rooms in the hotels in Shillong as thousands of guests from other states arrived to watch the singer’s performance.
The city witnessed massive traffic jams as people kept arriving on Tuesday before heading to Polo where the event was held.
Meanwhile, there is no clarity on who took the initiative of holding the rock concert as Navin Sharma, Executive Assistant to CMD and HR Manager of Meghalayan Age Limited, which is a state government entity, was seen welcoming Bryan Adams at the Shillong Airport on Monday.
