JOWAI, Dec 11: The diamond jubilee celebrations of the Seiñraij Higher Secondary School, Jowai, culminated on Wednesday, commemorating 60 years of dedicated service in education since its establishment in 1964.
The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar as the chief guest, alongside local MLA Wailadmiki Shylla as the guest of honour. Other notable attendees included president of Seiñraij Jowai Hercules Toi, Dolloi of Jowai Elaka Puramon Kynjing, local elders, teachers and students.
Dhar, in his address, praised the vision and leadership of the school. “Without the vision and efforts of the school’s leaders, we would never have reached this great day,” he remarked.
The deputy chief minister pledged his continued support to the institution, promising to work with the local MLA and the School Management Committee (SMC) to address its needs.
Dhar also highlighted key ongoing projects in Jowai, including the Iawmusiang Market Complex, road improvements, Mini Secretariat, DC Office building, Ladthadlaboh Stadium and tourism initiatives aimed at economic growth.
Meanwhile, school principal Wompher Laloo reflected on the school’s legacy since its inception in 1964.
She raised concerns about the lack of government support for the school’s higher secondary section, operational since 2009, and appealed to the Deputy CM for assistance in resolving this issue.
Toi, on the other hand, lauded the school’s contribution to society, noting its role in shaping successful professionals across various fields, including medicine, government services, and sports.
The celebration also honoured distinguished individuals who have played pivotal roles in the school’s development, including S Ram Paswet, founder member and headmaster of ME School, as well as former teachers and other contributors.
