MIT University celebrates 5th convocation with pomp

SHILLONG, Dec 15: MIT University of Meghalaya, nestled amidst the serene landscape of Mawkasiang, Shillong, celebrated its 5th Convocation Ceremony with grandeur and enthusiasm on Saturday.
The event was a moment of pride and accomplishment as students, adorned in their graduation robes, marked the culmination of their academic journey and the beginning of a promising new chapter.
The ceremony began with an academic procession, followed by a heartfelt rendition of Vande Mataram, paying tribute to the motherland. Dignitaries, faculty members, students, and their families came together in an atmosphere of joy and celebration.
The guest of honour, RV Warjri, delivered an inspiring address. Congratulating the graduates, he reflected on the tranquil and invigorating environment of the university, which reminded him of his own student days. Warjri highlighted the transformative power of technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, urging the graduates to embrace these advancements to excel in their respective fields and adapt to an increasingly digital world.
The ceremony was further honoured by the presence of distinguished guests, including Hailu Demissie from the Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Hannington Kananura and Balunywa Baker from the High Commission of Uganda, who extended their best wishes to the graduates.
In his inaugural address, Vice Chancellor Dr. Malhar Pangrikar warmly welcomed the esteemed guests, faculty, students, and their families. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad, the visionary Founder of the MIT Group of Institutions, for his philosophy of integrating science and spirituality, which continues to inspire the university’s ethos. Dr Pangrikar also acknowledged the leadership of Dr Sunil Karad, executive president of the MIT Group, for his strategic vision that has propelled the institution to new heights.
Dr Pangrikar emphasised the university’s commitment to holistic education rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and the rich cultural heritage of Northeast India.
“At MIT University of Meghalaya, we nurture individuals who are not only intellectually sharp but also physically fit, mentally resilient, and spiritually elevated,” he remarked.
The Vice Chancellor proudly highlighted the university’s success in fostering professional readiness among students. Many graduates have secured placements in leading organizations such as Tata Motors, Cholamandalam, and Hilton Embassy, while others gained valuable experience through internships with esteemed entities like the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority, Meghalaya Industrial Corporation, and the Khadi Village Industries Corporation.
Additionally, a number of students have ventured into entrepreneurship, showcasing the spirit of innovation and self-reliance cultivated at MIT University.
Looking to the future, Dr Pangrikar unveiled ambitious plans for the university, including the launch of new academic schools such as the School of Applied Health Sciences, School of Science and Technology, School of Social Sciences, and School of Liberal Studies.
He also announced the establishment of the MIT Centre for Research and Innovation, which will focus on multidisciplinary research in fields like technology, management, design, humanities, and health sciences. These initiatives align with the National Education Policy (NEP) and aim to equip graduates for the demands of the 21st-century job market.
In his closing remarks, Dr Pangrikar encouraged the graduates to carry forward the values and knowledge instilled during their time at MIT University. “This is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter. Let your actions illuminate the path for others to follow,” he said.
The Pro Vice Chancellor concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Board of Governors, management, faculty, and staff for their unwavering support. He extended special appreciation to Dr Vishwanath D Karad for his enduring vision and leadership, emphasising that the convocation was not only a celebration of student achievements but also a reaffirmation of the university’s core values and aspirations.
