SHILLONG, Dec 18: Recognising the selfless and dedicated services of the workers responsible for urban health and hygiene, the Dorbar Shnong Riatsamthiah on Wednesday honoured and thanked these workers for playing a vital role. Following a cleaning drive, the Dorbar Shnong felicitated officers and staff from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, Public Works Department, besides Shillong Municipal Board, who are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the locality.
Headman of Riatsamthiah, M Kharkrang, expressed deep appreciation for these workers, while stating, “Behind every clean street and every drop of safe drinking water is a network of public health workers, municipal cleaners, and engineers who labour silently to keep the city alive. Their efforts are not just about maintenance — they safeguard lives and enhance the quality of life,” he said.
He reminded attendees that the work of these departments is often taken for granted, yet they are crucial for basic amenities such as clean water, footpaths, and garbage-free streets. “Without their efforts, there would be no safe drinking water, no proper pavements, and our streets would turn into garbage heaps,” he added.
Kharkrang stressed the need to acknowledge and appreciate their unwavering commitment to public welfare.
He described the felicitation as a small token of gratitude for their dedication to duty and their invaluable contributions to the locality’s well-being.
