JOWAI, Dec 18: Mynsngat-Khanduli MDC Dawan Lyngdoh has announced that he will not contest the upcoming Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) elections scheduled for February next year.
Lyngdoh, who was elected as an MDC in 2019 under the United Democratic Party (UDP), cited the challenges of the election and the nature of the contest as reasons for his decision.
In a statement, Lyngdoh expressed gratitude to UDP leaders for entrusting him with the party ticket in the previous election. He also thanked the voters of Mynsngat-Khanduli, acknowledging the support and trust of the 21 villages in his constituency.
Reflecting on his tenure, Lyngdoh apologised to his constituents for any unmet expectations, despite his efforts to bring development to the region through projects like water tanks, community halls, schools and toilets.
Encouraging voters to make informed decisions, Lyngdoh stressed the importance of electing “wise, intelligent, and responsible leaders” who could address the challenges in the JHADC and contribute to the community’s and state’s development.
