KHADC’s professional tax collection rises

Shillong, Dec 19: KHADC Executive Member in-charge of Professional Tax, Fantin J Lakadong said on Thursday that the collection of professional tax has gone up following the introduction of online payment system in the current financial year.
Lakadong said the council collected Rs 7.23 crore between April and November 2024 as compared to Rs 7.19 crore during the same period last year.
He admitted that the council faced glitches when they first introduced the online payment system.
“But I am happy to inform the House that we have been able to solve the problem with the help of the NIC,” Lakadong said.
Opposition leader Titosstarwell Chyne said there were complaints from people that the online payment takes a lot of time to get processed.
He said that some people have complained that they have to pay Rs 500 at cyber cafés to pay the professional taxes online.
KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem requested Lakadong to give people the option to pay the tax through both offline and online modes.
