Women’s U-19 Asia Cup: India thrash Bangladesh by 8 wickets
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19: G Trisha made a fine unbeaten fifty to guide India to a facile eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in their first Super Four match of the Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup here on Thursday.Chasing a modest 81, India raced past the target in 12.1 overs with Trisha making 58 not out off 46 balls with 10 fours. India ended up at 86 for two.However, India had started the chase on a shaky note losing opener G Kamalini for a four-ball duck and Sanika Chalke (1) when the team score was on 22.But Kamalni and captain Nikki Prasad (22 not out, 14b; 1×4, 2×6) added 64 runs for the unbroken third wicket alliance to take India home.Earlier, left-arm spinners Ayush Shukla and Sonam Yadav shared five wickets among them as India limited Bangladesh to 80 for 8 in their full quota of overs.India now lead the Super Four table with five points followed by Bangladesh who have four points.

Novice Cup to begin today
COIMBATORE, Dec 19: Seven teams with 22 racers will battle it out for podium in the Novice Cup, which is a part of the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.Zion Racing, MSport, DTS Racing, Momentum Motorsport, Delta Speed, Ahura Racing and Avalanche Racing will compete across five races over the two days to decide the overall champion of 2024.The Novice Cup is a feeder series from where many racers have graduated to higher level like national champion such as Ruhaan Alva, reigning Formula LGB4 champion Tijil Rao, Amir Sayed, Vishwas Vijayraj, Arjun Nair and Naethan. Rider Raju secures spot in Asian Continental C’ships
PATTAYA, Dec 19: Rider Raju Singh finished twice on the podium at the FEI’s CCI 3-star event to qualify for next year’s Asian Continental Championships in Pattaya, Thailand.Singh secured first place with his horse Mawillan and a close second with Matakali, cementing his superiority in the prestigious event that concluded on Wednesday.Showcasing their prowess, Singh, Pradeep Kumar and Kumabhar Mahesh K Sharayu also successfully met the challenging Minimum Eligibility Requirements by completing the event with penalties of 48 or less-and will make up the Indian team at the Asian Continental Championships.Competing in the Dressage Test, Show Jumping, and Cross Country back-to-back days, Singh took the top podium in the latter with horse Mawillan and second place with horse Matakli, accumulating 38.8 and 40.6 penalty points, respectively.Kumar followed with horse Parinda in third place with 42.3 penalty points, while Sharayu, with horse Indian Glory, also finished within the MER with a score of 46.7. Liam Lawson to partner Max Verstappen in 2025
MILTON KEYNES, Dec 19: Liam Lawson will partner world champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2025, the Formula 1 team said on Thursday.Lawson, a New Zealander, replaces Sergio Perez, who was dropped on Wednesday after months of poor results.Lawson will switch from Racing Bulls, Red Bull’s sister team. He started in Red Bull’s junior program. Lawson joined Red Bull’s junior program in 2019 and made his F1 debut at the Dutch Grand Prix in 2023 with Scuderia AlphaTauri – which was later rebranded as Racing Bulls – in place of the injured Daniel Ricciardo. He completed five races for the team that year.This year, Dawson had a points-scoring finish at the United States Grand Prix, again replacing Ricciardo. ”There’s no doubt that racing alongside Max, a four-time champion and undoubtedly one of the greatest drivers ever seen in F1, is a daunting task,” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said, “but I’m sure Liam can rise to that challenge and deliver some outstanding results for us next year.” Lawson said it was a “lifelong dream” to be racing with Red Bull.“This is something I’ve wanted and worked toward since I was 8 years old,” he said. “It’s been an incredible journey so far.” Perez’s contract was terminated two years early, the Mexican ditched after being rarely competitive this season.
