SHILLONG, Dec 21: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has banned the movement of overloaded hay-laden trucks and pickups on the Mawtawar-Mawsiatkhnam Road and across Shillong.
The prohibitory order, which comes into effect immediately and will remain in force until further notice, was issued following reports that overloaded vehicles pose significant safety risks, including the potential to come into contact with electric wires, which could lead to major fire incidents.
Reports further stated that the hay falling from these vehicles has been littering roads in the area, creating a nuisance and undermining the efforts of local annual cleaning drives.
