SHILLONG, Dec 22: At a time when the festive mood has gripped Shillong and its residents, several instances of drunken brawls have been reported from across the city.
In one of the incidents in Khyndai Lad recently, a group of boys were captured on video assaulting each other, forcing police personnel to hit them with lathis (batons) in an attempt to disperse them.
In another video, a group of boys are seen raining blows on each other at Laitumkhrah point.
Though police officials were not available to comment on the precautionary measures being taken to thwart such incidents, a source from the department said police have been conducting vice raids to check against sale and consumption of liquor in public places.
So far, no severe case of assault or attack has been reported from any part of the city in the last few days leading up to Christmas, the biggest festival in Christian-dominated Meghalaya.
