SHILLONG, Dec 29: The Opposition Congress on Sunday predicted a disappointing outing for the ruling NPP in the district council elections scheduled on February 21 despite being fully dependent on its “muscle and money power” to win the elections.
Asserting that it would be difficult for the NPP to win the MDC polls, MPCC president Vincent H Pala said, “They (NPP) have taken it for granted that people can be lured with money; but the people of Meghalaya are fed up with the present government and they will teach them a lesson.”
Referring to statements by NPP leaders that no one can form the executive committee without their blessings, Pala said, “The tone of their leaders says it all. They are banking on money and muscle power.”
The MPCC chief also pointed out that half of the NPP candidates are not contesting willingly while the other half has opted to contest as independents.
