GUWAHATI, Jan 2: The Border Protection and Development (BPD) department of the Assam government on Thursday assessed the progress of initiatives aimed at resolving the long-standing inter-state boundary issues of Assam with neighbouring states.
Chairing a meeting with senior officials of the department, Assam minister Atul Bora assessed the progress of initiatives taken to address the long-standing inter-state boundary issues with neighbouring states like Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
“Thanks to the political goodwill and dedicated efforts of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, along with the proactive approach of the leadership of neighbouring states, we are optimistic about achieving lasting peace and fostering rapid development in the inter-state border areas. These efforts will ensure the welfare of communities residing on both sides of the borders,” Bora stated on social media later.
On the other hand, Bora also chaired a meeting of the Implementation of Assam Accord (IAA) department and reviewed the action plans for executing the 52 recommendations put forth by the Justice (Retd.) Biplab Sarma Committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.
“During a comprehensive review meeting with senior officials of the Implementation of Assam Accord (IAA) department, we examined the action plans for executing the 52 recommendations put forth by the Committee. I emphasised the importance of accelerating these efforts through constant coordination with other concerned government departments to ensure swift and effective implementation,” the minister, who also holds the IAA portfolio, said.
Senior officials from both departments, comprising principal secretary of the IAA and BPD departments G.D. Tripathi; BPD department secretary Prabhati Thaosen; BPD director Subhalakshmi Deka and IAA department secretary Neera Daulagupu were present in the review meetings.
