SYDNEY, Jan 2: Australian skipper Pat Cummins has revealed his team’s plans to neutralize the threat posed by Jasprit Bumrah, India’s star pacer, ahead of the decisive final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
The high-stakes encounter, set to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), holds dual significance: Australia is aiming to clinch their first Test series win against India since 2014-15 and secure their place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s.
Bumrah has been the standout performer of the series, claiming an astonishing 30 wickets in four matches at an average of 12.83. His exceptional form in 2024, where he has taken 71 wickets in 13 Tests, has established him as one of the most formidable bowlers in world cricket.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Cummins lauded Bumrah’s skill and consistency. “Bumrah is bowling incredibly well at the moment. He’s always a tough opponent,” Cummins said. “Hopefully, by the time I come in to bat, he’s bowled quite a bit and is feeling the effects, which might make things a little easier for me.”
Reflecting on his own experiences facing the Indian pacer, Cummins added, “I’ve faced him plenty of times across different formats around the world, and he’s always a challenge. Last game, I was fortunate to spend some time at the non-striker’s end while he was bowling. That certainly made things easier for me.”
Australia enters the SCG Test with momentum on their side, having secured a commanding 184-run victory in Melbourne to lead the series 2-1. A win in Sydney would not only seal the series but also guarantee Australia a spot in the WTC final.
For India, Bumrah remains their most potent weapon as they look to level the series and salvage their WTC hopes. However, with Australia’s well-defined plans and strong form, the hosts are poised to finish the series on a high.
All eyes will now be on Bumrah’s bowling brilliance and Australia’s strategy as the teams gear up for what promises to be a thrilling finale to an intense series. (Agencies)
