ADC polls: Cong to release 2nd list of candidates on January 8
SHILLONG, Jan 2: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) will release the second list of party candidates on January 8 for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), scheduled for February 21. So far, the Congress has announced the names of 15 candidates for the KHADC polls. A senior Congress leader revealed on Thursday that the second list will feature candidates for both the KHADC and JHADC. Meanwhile, the 15 Congress candidates gathered at Congress Bhavan on Thursday to kick-start their election campaign, seeking the support of voters in their respective constituencies. The candidates also discussed the key issues they will address during their campaigns. The 15 Congress candidates present at Congress Bhavan include Dominic Mynsong from Mawhati, Rocky A Marwein from Umsning, Jonathan Syiem from Sohryngkham, Hilarius Warbah from Mawkynrew, Astarland Khyllep from Shella, Banphiralang Basaïawmoit from Mylliem, Allan Victor Lyngdoh from Nongthymmai, Manuel Badwar from Laitumkhrah-Malki, sitting MDC Pynshngaiñlang N Syiem from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Gerald Shullai from Jaïaw-Mawprem, Wanseng Jyrwa from Mawlai, Nathaniel Rymmai from Nongspung-Sohiong, Lawanpynshngaiñ War from Mairang-Nongkhlaw, Bormanding Nonglang from Rambrai Jyrngam and Medal Sing Lyngdoh from Mawkyrwat.
MCCEU demands release of dues and SICSP instalment
SHILLONG, Jan 2: The Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees’ Union (MCCEU) has urged the management to release pending dues and the first instalment of the Special Industrial Closure Scheme Package (SICSP). In a letter to the Managing Director of MCCL, MCCEU general secretary, Arnold L Thabah, stated that a recent executive committee meeting of the union resolved to remind the management of the verbal agreement reached during a joint meeting on December 16, 2024. The agreement entailed providing financial assistance to all employees within December, which was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. “Therefore we fervently pray that it should be release within the first week of January 2025 to ease the pressure of employee families,” Thabah said. He also stressed the need to disburse the first instalment of the SICSP by the last week of January 2025, as verbally discussed and agreed upon during the joint meeting. “We hope and pray that the above two points raised by the Union, will be consider and implemented by your good office for the benefits and welfare of all concern,” the MCCEU general secretary said.
162nd death anniv of U Kiang Nangbah marked at city event
SHILLONG, Jan 2: The Sein Jaiñtia Shillong paid floral tributes to the bust of U Kiang Nangbah on his 162nd death anniversary at the State Central Library premises on December 30. The event was presided over by general secretary Armanki Pariat, who extended his wishes to the members and well-wishers present for demonstrating unity in honouring this significant occasion. On the other hand, vice-president Maya Rani Kyndiah highlighted U Kiang Nangbah’s life and his ultimate sacrifice at the gallows. She reminded everyone of his enduring legacy and his prophetic vision of freedom within a century of his death, which continues to inspire generations. The programme concluded with a prayer message by member Rishottre Pyrbot.
